Sat Nam and Welcome!

I'm really excited to share my music and love for Shabad Guru (words that cut ego and uplift one from darkness to light) from my heart to yours!  It's been a fun and fulfilling process preparing this site and ultimately I pray your life is enriched by visiting here.

My full name is Hari Bhajan Kaur Khalsa which means Pure Princess who is the Song of God.  All Sikh women are encouraged to take the word 'Kaur', which means princess, into their name, but I believe all true women deserve this title.

A little about me - I have been singing my whole life.  I remember playing my first shabad at age five.  Shabads are an enlightened style of songs or teachings that come from the Sikh sacred scriptures called the Siri Guru Granth Sahib ji.  At an early age, I began singing Gurbani Kirtan (the Sikh tradition of singing shabads).

Born in Mexico, I grew up attending a boarding school in India, called Miri Piri Academy.  While there, I learned discipline and Kundalini yoga along with the history of my life path, Sikhi or Sikh Dharma.  In my senior years of high school, I took a keen interest in an ancient Indian classical style of music, called Raag.

After graduation, I also taught at the school, about the Sikh path and Gurbani Kirtan, to the youngest grades of MPA.  There's nothing like teaching tiny, intelligent, pure, and yet mischievous children.  I loved it!!  While taking care of the children, I also gratefully immersed myself in Raag Kirtan, studying and practicing in my free-time.

My training continues still with a Raag master, Ustadji Narinder Singh Sandhu, who is a great teacher of Gurbani Kirtan in Raag.  I honor his teaching-style which encourages feeling the musical techniques more than intellectualizing the rules.

This combination of Raag and Kirtan is also deeply transcendent and among my favorite styles to listen to and sing.  I mostly sing hymns or shabads, written by saints and divine Sikh masters of the past.  I am grateful to have sung Gurbani Kirtan all over India, Malaysia, Mexico, Germany, Sweden, USA, and Canada.  And, by God's grace, we continue to share this devotional music, to touch the hearts of those who need it.

Music is the deepest fulfillment in my life.  It's 'my thing' in the highest sense.  There are no words for my love of music and singing, especially shabads.

Anyway, I am now gratefully married to my beloved husband, Siri Chand Singh Khalsa, who is originally from Mexico.  He accompanies me with the guitar, or percussion and we are a jetha (sacred music band).  We were married on June 6th, 2010 in New Mexico, USA.  I am deeply grateful for his inspiring and loving presence in my life. We are grateful to have two awesome, divine children who keep us flexible and active!

Finally, I would like to honor my Spiritual Teacher, the late Siri Singh Sahib, Bhai Sahib, Harbhajan Singh Khalsa, Yogiji, with the deepest gratitude.  He is a guiding light for my soul.  He encourages me to relate to my soul, relate to the Guru, to travel and spread the Guru's words through song, and squeezed it into my face to smile, smile, smile.  And he continues to inspire my destiny with his subtle presence and honorable legacy.  I thank him forever.

So, I pray you are inspired somehow from this website and from the awesome tool of Shabad Gurbani Kirtan.

May you be filled with the deepest truth, radiant with your own pure love, and grateful to be part of our beautiful planet and humanity.  May peace be in your mind, life, and heart.

Sat Nam.

Hari Bhajan Kaur Khalsa
